Theatres, Concert Halls and Performance Venues in New Orleans

New Orleans, Louisiana is known for a variety of things including the birthplace of Jazz, the home of Mardi Gras, the French Quarter, its rich heritage of Cajun and Creole culture, and much more. However , what is often overlooked and underrated by many travelers are its excellent performace arts venues and theaters in the Big Easy. For the culturally minded traveler, New Orleans is home to a spread of venues to experience theaters and concerts in the Big Easy illustrating all the differing kinds of music that has made this city famous.

Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre 

The city of New Orleans is home to the oldest continuous running community New Orleans theaters in the country, Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre. Located on 616 Saint Peter Street in the center of the French Quarter, Le Petit Theatre been offering plays and musicals since 1916. A longtime refuge for the New Orleans' creative class, it has earned the loving nickname, "The Most Haunted Theater in The United States" From its rich history off and on the stage, a history that is continuing to be written today.

Mahalia Jackson Theater 

From rock concerts to Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals all the way to sarcsatic comics, the Mahalia Jackson Theater has it all. Located on 1419 Basin Street in Treme, it has been home to a great range of different musicians, comedians and Broadway touring companies since 1973. One of the most beautiful New Orleans theaters, it was named after the legendary gospel singer, one of New Orleans' most famed residents, in 1993.

Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra 

New Orleans is also base for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Led by Carlos Miguel Prieto, the Orchestra performs a full 36 week season from September to May, featuring a diverse selection of great classical and modern works that are sure to entertain and improve the lives of music connoisseurs of every age, including a collection of Young People's Concerts. Its concerts are performed all over the city of New Orleans in the best concert halls in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Arena 

The New Orleans Arena, on 1501 Girod Street in the center of downtown, is best known as the home of basketball's New Orleans Hornets. It also functions as one of the concert halls in New Orleans, offering a range of more recent musical fare from some of the newest and greatest names in popular music along with family shows and icecapade spectacles that are sure to delight children and adults alike.

Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans 

The Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans has led the rebirth of the Downtown Warehouse District as a prospering cultural center. Mixing an eclectic demonstration of modern art with some of New Orleans' most exciting and cutting edge performances, the CAC offers everything from urban dance and jazz masters to children's theatre.
